Beginner's Korner: Kendo information for the beginner
If you find yourself wanting to find more kendo information and have made the decision to begin practicing, you will undoubtedly find yourself overwhelmed when confronted by the influx of information you will receive.
The first question you may want to ask yourself is “Is kendo for you?”
Well is it? If you like hard work, tough challenges, an enhanced social life, and rewarding experiences than it is for you.
Whether you want to dedicate yourself to a martial art, just want to find a new hobby to pursue, or simply want to get in shape—kendo is for you.
Although it sounds contradictory, not everyone is able to practice this ancient martial art. Not everyone will like it. It is tough and challenging and, at times, a pain in the backside. The rewards, however, are well worth the effort.
To make things simple, we have split up this section into 5 steps of learning:
you already know that there is a ton of information to digest in the small amount of time you have at practice. There is no way you, or anyone, could possibly remember all the knowledge you were expected to retain that first day of class.
In order to make it a bit easier to find information that is relevant to you, we’ve compiled an overview of the basics in an easy to understand manner in the
Kendo Basics section found here.
Kendo also has a very interesting
ranking system
that is similar to most Japanese martial (karate, judo, aikido) and aesthetic (chado) arts.
