Beginning the Journey

At this point, you have probably already decided whether or not kendo is right for you. If it seems like something you would enjoy than its time for you to find a dojo to practice! Kendo is popular enough that there will probably be a dojo near you, wherever you are.

If there is no dojo around to practice in, while it is possible to be self-taught in kendo, it is not highly recommended-- learning without a quality sensei may (dare I say will) lead to irreversible problems in your kendo that every teacher will enjoy beating out of you.

Choosing the right dojo is important. Everyone is different, and thus it is important for you to find a dojo that fits with your learning style. Of course, oftentimes, we cannot afford to be picky. However, it is best to be cautious now than to be disappointed later if your teacher ends up being less skilled than he said he was.

If you have decided to practice kendo and have never been exposed to it before, please proceed to the next section of the Beginner’s Korner section. If you have been to kendo practice before and have already chosen a dojo, please enjoy the rest of the site!

Remember, if you have any questions, and if those questions are within our ability to answer, do not hesitate to contact us through the Contact Us page.
