Types of kendo Keiko (practice)

Hikitate Keiko (Teaching Practice): Practice where the instructor will open target areas for a student to hit. This practice is to develop basic fundamentals of kendo.

Gokaku Keiko (Peer practice): Practice where two peers of equal rank will fight each other without regard of points. It lets both practitioners practice their waza or techniques.

Jigeiko (Free practice): Free practice.

Kakari Keiko (Attacking Practice): Practice where a student is constantly attacking the instructor and does not let up or stop until the command to stop is given.

Kihon Keiko (Basic Practice): Basic practice where all of the fundamentals are stressed. Correct posture, footwork, positioning, and large strikes are a must in kihon

Uchikomi Keiko (Attack practice):Another basic practice. Instructor will open up for student to hit.

Mitori Keiko (Learn by oberservation): Practice where the student observes others practicing.

Mohan Geiko (Model Practice): Practice where students observe higher ranking kendoka, or kendo practitioners, practicing with each other.
